The start of a new year often comes with fresh goals and renewed motivation – whether that means prioritizing health, saving money, practicing self-care, or focusing on personal growth. The good news? You don’t have to put those resolutions on hold when it’s time to get out and explore. Henry County, Georgia offers countless ways to stay on track while enjoying everything the destination has to offer. Here’s how you can uphold your New Year’s resolutions – Henry County style.

Improve Fitness and Health

Often believed to be the most popular New Year’s resolution, improving fitness and overall health plays a major role in shaping the beginning of the year. While healthy habits can sometimes trail off during travel or busy weekends, Henry County offers plenty of opportunities to help you stay committed.

Disc golf enthusiasts can challenge themselves at J.P. Mosely, a championship-caliber course recognized by the Professional Disc Golf Association. Featuring 27 holes, it’s the highest-rated disc golf course in metro Atlanta and caters to players of all skill levels. Not much of a thrower? Head over to Rum Creek for a round of footgolf – a fun hybrid of soccer and golf that swaps clubs for kicks.

For those who prefer two wheels, Atlanta Trek – located just off Highway 20 – can outfit you with everything you need for a long ride. Once geared up, explore Henry County’s parks or even take your bike to Panola Mountain for a scenic workout.

Panola Mountain State Park offers guided hikes throughout the year, allowing visitors to explore the natural beauty of Georgia’s only remaining monadnock. Designated as a National Natural Landmark, the park is home to rare plant species and stunning scenery. In addition to hiking, Panola Mountain State Park also offers archery lessons and other outdoor activities to keep your fitness goals on track.

Located in Locust Grove, Indigo Soul Yoga welcomes everyone from beginners to experienced yogis. Whether you attend classes in their studio or join one of their outdoor sessions in the park during warmer months, yoga is a wonderful way to support both physical and mental well-being.

After breaking a sweat, refuel with a fresh smoothie or juice from Drip-Thru Coffee, Made Fresh Juice Co., or Maui Wowi.

Save Money

After all the spending that comes with the holidays, saving money often becomes a top priority. Fortunately, Henry County offers plenty of budget-friendly experiences that don’t skimp on fun.

Deemed one of the top NASCAR venues in the country, EchoPark Speedway features an impressive calendar of events throughout the year. On quieter days, visitors can still experience the thrill of the track with a guided tour. Each tour includes a brief history of the speedway, a visit to Petty Garden, and a look inside an EchoPark Speedway suite. Tickets are just $15 and tours begin at the gift shop.

Railfans can enjoy a front-row seat to the 40+ trains that pass through Locust Grove daily from the city’s train-watching platform. Located in historic downtown Locust Grove, this free attraction highlights the city’s railroad roots dating back to 1882 and even features a radio scanner to track incoming trains.

Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary provides a peaceful and affordable way to connect with wildlife. This 121-acre refuge is home to rescued exotic and domestic animals, including bears, monkeys, birds, and more. Admission is just $5 per person, with the last ticket sold at 3 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.

For a creative (and free) adventure, follow the Bushy Tail Art Trail to discover whimsical squirrel tables scattered throughout Henry County. Each uniquely designed table reflects its surroundings, making this family-friendly trail a fun way to explore local communities – and maybe even spot familiar “nut-torious” characters like Nuthaniel along the way.

Self-Care

Physical wellness is important, but mental wellness through self-care is just as crucial for creating a better you. Since self-care looks different for everyone, Henry County offers a wide range of options to help you unwind after the holiday hustle.

Honeycomb Cottage is a go-to destination for classic self-care. With massage therapy, spa packages, and other relaxing treatments, it’s the perfect place to slow down and recharge.

For a different, but equally meaningful, approach to self-care, visit ConversationStarters. This locally owned bookstore offers fiction for escapism, self-help reads for growth, and creative events like sip-and-paint nights that provide a therapeutic outlet.

And of course, there’s always the option for a little retail therapy at Tanger Outlets Locust Grove. With dozens of name-brand stores, it’s easy to find something special for yourself or check a few items off your shopping list.

Personal Growth

One of the best ways to foster personal growth is through reflection – and often, that includes learning from history.

Ever dreamed of flying in a Huey or Cobra helicopter? The Army Aviation Heritage Foundation & Flying Museum makes it possible. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to preserving the legacy of Army Aviation and offers free, pre-scheduled educational tours of its historic aircraft and hangar.

The Heritage Park Veterans Museum also offers free guided tours lasting approximately 1.5 hours. Led by veterans, these tours provide personal insights into the lives of American service members, bringing history to life through stories, uniforms, vehicles, medals, and more. Admission is free, with donations encouraged.

A Resolution Worth Keeping

No matter what goals you’ve set for the year ahead, Henry County makes it easy to stay motivated while exploring somewhere new or seeing familiar places in a fresh way. From outdoor adventures and affordable attractions to moments of rest, reflection, and growth, your resolutions don’t have to stay at home. This year, let Henry County help you turn intentions into experiences and make your New Year one worth remembering.
