Making Moments That Matter in Henry County, GA

The most meaningful moments in life are the ones made with others. In a world increasingly filled with screens, notifications, and constant demands, finding space to slow down and truly connect has never been more important. Henry County offers countless opportunities to step away from the noise, reconnect with loved ones, and rediscover the joy found in shared experiences through nature, nostalgia, history, or simple pleasures.

So much of our daily lives involve screens and blue light. Whether for a guided hike or an archery lesson, unplug from the chaos of the outside world and venture over to Panola Mountain State Park. This 100-acre granite monadnock is home to rare plants, including the enchanting red succulent Diamorpha, seen in late March and early April, as well as a variety of family-friendly activities that invite visitors to slow down and explore together.

Reflecting on the past is often viewed as a looked-down-upon notion, but invoking nostalgia and sharing it with younger generations can rejuvenate the youth within you. Starlite Family Fun Center, located in both McDonough and Stockbridge, brings that rejuvenation to life through roller skating, laser tag, and arcade games, which awards tickets to be redeemed at the beloved Stuff Shop. These simple joys create memories that span generations.

The past also offers opportunities to learn and reflect through history. The Veterans Museum at Heritage Park opened its doors on Veterans Day in 2010 with fewer than 30 artifacts housed in a red barn. Since then, it has grown to include uniforms, artifacts, and stories dating back to World War I. Tours led by volunteer veterans provide visitors with meaningful insight into military life and the significance of the items on display.

Veterans also lead efforts at the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation and Flying Museum. Volunteers offer pre-scheduled educational hangar tours featuring restored Huey and Cobra helicopters, along with the opportunity to book helicopter rides in advance – an unforgettable experience for aviation enthusiasts and families alike.

Traditional Georgia experiences take center stage at Southern Belle Farm, where strawberry and peach picking in the spring transitions into pumpkin patches and corn mazes in the fall. This 330-acre agritourism farm invites families to enjoy activities at Belle’s Barn, savor fresh produce and homemade strawberry ice cream at the Country Market, and fill baskets with fruits from the U-Pick fields.

For those with a sweet tooth, Crumbles by Nicole creates what can only be described as edible memories. After competing in baking championships, Nicole Silva opened Crumbles with the goal of making the world a little sweeter. From cupcakes and sugar cookies to sourdough bread and custom cakes, the storefront offers treats for every occasion. Just a few doors down, the bakery itself hosts classes where visitors can learn the tips and tricks behind creating the perfect dessert.

The sweetness of sugar gives way to the wholesomeness of animals at Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary. This refuge provides a safe haven for animals rescued from abuse, neglect, and abandonment. Set in a peaceful, park-like environment, the sanctuary allows families to observe and appreciate these animals while honoring their dignity and need for space.

Henry County also hosts a wide variety of events that bring people together in unique ways. From NASCAR races at EchoPark Speedway to live performances at the VyStar Amphitheater and community festivals throughout the year, there is never a dull moment for those seeking shared experiences.

Whether you’re exploring nature, reliving cherished traditions, learning history, or savoring something sweet, Henry County offers countless ways to create moments that matter. These shared experiences remind us that joy is often found not in grand gestures, but in the simple act of being present with family, friends, and the community around us.
