Spring is finally here! The sun is shining and the wind is blowing. With springtime comes a variety of fun outdoor activities to take part in. Here is a list of events and attractions you can experience during this time of the year in Henry County, Georgia.
1. Southern Belle Farm
One sign of spring’s arrival is the presence of beautiful and delicious plant life. That’s where Southern Belle Farms comes in. Known for their expansive strawberry picking fields, Southern Belle Farm gives you the opportunity to spend the day filling your bucket full of fresh fruit. Not only can you pick strawberries and other fruit, you can also visit the market for freshly prepared desserts along with other goods. Choose from various weekend activities for children, including jumping pillows, a cow train, pedal cars, hayride, rubber duck races and much more that will bring a bright smile to you and your children’s faces.

Everyone loves a decadent dessert, a scrumptious appetizer, or a delectable entree. Taste of Henry serves food options that are sure to satisfy your every craving. This event gives you an opportunity to exercise your taste buds by trying new dishes from over 35 restaurants. There’s entertainment available for all ages, including the Kid’s Zone area, where you can find face painting, balloon making and inflatables from Kid’s Bouncy Things.

3. Tree Climbing at Panola Mountain State Park
If you adore the beauty of the outdoors, then Panola Mountain State Park is the place to go! Panola Mountain State Park has an abundance of outdoor activities to do in April with your family and friends, including tree climbing, archery, hiking, a special Easter egg hunt for the little ones, and much more. Their early morning and evening hiking adventures give you the chance to witness a beautiful sunrise or enjoy the soothing moonlight. Archery is offered during various scheduled dates for those whose skill levels range from beginner to advanced. With these activities occurring throughout the year, you’ll have multiple opportunities to enjoy what nature has to offer.

4. Summit Racing Equipment Atlanta Motorama (Atlanta Motor Speedway)
If you like to live life in the fast lane, this event is for you. Take a trip to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the April 22 and 23 Summit Racing Equipment Atlanta Motorama. You’ll find everything with a motor here from classic muscle cars to boats and RVs. Smokey and the Bandit fans will appreciate the appearance of replica cars from the classic 1977 film, while kids are sure to be mesmerized by the enormous BIGFOOT monster trucks that will be on display. The event is presented by RacingJunk.com and is a fun activity for all motor enthusiasts.

5. Army Aviation Heritage Foundation
Fasten your seat belts and get ready for lift off! At the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation, you can enjoy the experience of a lifetime as you take a ride in a Vietnam-era Huey or Cobra helicopter. They also offer free tours of the aircraft hangar and participate in air shows throughout the country.

6. Heritage Park Veterans Museum
This attraction will pull at your heartstrings. Take a journey through history as you experience the Heritage Park Veterans Museum. You have the choice of a self-guided tour or a tour lead by one of the volunteer military veterans who staff the museum, as they share their stories and the stories of pieces within the museum. By the end of the tour, you will have a completely new appreciation for this country’s veterans and history.

7. Locust Grove Train Watching Platform
Enjoy a nice spring day sitting outside and watching trains pass by from the shaded comfort of the Locust Grove Train Watching Platform. This fun pastime is a free activity to enjoy with your family. The Train Watching Platform is a wonderful place to bond while waiting for the next train to pass. You’ll have plenty of time to bond with 40 trains passing through daily.

8. Atlanta Burger Wars
The Atlanta Burger Wars is one food fight that you do not want to miss! Taste samples of succulent burgers that will satisfy your every food fantasy. The event includes juicy burgers prepared by individuals and professional teams of hopefuls all vying for the chance to win tickets to the World Food Championships. Atlanta Burger Wars takes place at Atlanta Motor Speedway, so be there or be hungry.

9. Peach Stand Road Race
2017 marks the 11th year of the Peach Stand Road Race. With a goal of promoting, preserving and revitalizing downtown Locust Grove, the Peach Stand Road Race is popular within the community, growing into a much-anticipated event. Put your athletic skills to the test and walk…or run away with bragging rights.

10. Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary
See some friendly and furry faces when you visit Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary. Over 1500 rescued animals call this location home. Explore the sanctuary as you learn the names and stories behind many of its inhabitants. Choose a free self-guided tour or get an up-close view of the sanctuary with a paid Walk on the Wild Side tour.
