Panola Mountain State Park offers activities for all ages and fitness levels. Visitors can picnic while children work off energy on the playground. The park offers archery, boat rental, geocaching, orienteering, birding and tree-climbing programs. A paved trail is open for biking, roller blading, jogging and dog-walking, while forested fitness trails are open for hiking and running. Reservations are required for ranger-led hikes and many of the specialty programs. The State Park parking fee is $5 per car and the programs are generally $15 or less.
Henry County’s most famous attraction, Atlanta Motor Speedway, offers an inexpensive hour of fun and two fast laps around the track! The $10 track tour is offered seven days a week and starts in the gift shop.
Pay a visit to the JailHouse…for a tour and craft beer samples or samples to go! JailHouse Brewing Company, brewed in the former Hampton jail, offers hand-crafted beers that marry small-batch ingenuity with refreshing palatability. Brewery tours (visitation) and tastings are available Thursdays from 5:30 PM – 8 PM & Saturdays from 2 PM – 6PM and it is $12 for either 36 oz of samples or growler or a six pack to-go.
Starlite Family Fun Center offers a variety of family fun for $12 or less. There is roller skating, an arcade and even an indoor playground for toddlers and children. Rates and packages vary by day and activity.
Catch a movie at the Regal McDonough Stadium 16 when it’s too hot or too wet to be outdoors. The theatre offers 16 screens with stadium seating. During the summer they offer special $1 movies on Monday and Tuesday mornings.
Southern Belle Farm offers months of seasonal outdoor activities starting in mid-April with “You-Pick” and pre-picked delicious strawberries. As spring moves into summer, blueberries, blackberries and peaches are also available for you-pick along with other fresh produce. You-pick produce is $12/gallon. Before planning a trip be sure to check hours and produce availability. During weekends in the fall Southern Belle Farm offers a 7-acre corn maze, pig races, a jumping pillow, hayrides, corn cannon and more. Admission is $14 for everyone 3 and up.
If you want an authentic southern experience, stop by the Gardner Farm and Peach Orchard’s at the peach stand. Here you can either handpick a variety of fresh peaches, blueberries and blackberries or pick up other pre-picked fresh produce. Be sure to check hours and availability before visiting. Prices vary by produce variety.
The Pumpkin Patch at Yule Forest has you-pick pumpkins, a petting zoo, science center, a hayride and more for the younger kids for $9.50 and $8 for adults. For older kids and adults who like all things scary, haunted or undead, there is a Haunted House, Haunted Hayride, Haunted Trail and Zombie Paintball. Each activity is $15 for anyone 12 and over. Combo packages are available.
