When visitors to the Holiday Inn & Suites Stockbridge enjoy a welcoming, comfortable and clean environment, it is due to a staff of hardworking individuals who include the Director of Housekeeping, Ms. Regina Brooks. She is a longtime employee of the hotel—having worked there since the very first day the property located in Henry County, Georgia opened its doors in 2008. Although she has spent 12 years at the Stockbridge property, she has had a working relationship with the current general manager for 20 years. A great deal of her experience and knowledge has made its way to people and places around the state of Georgia and even neighboring states.
The story of her hospitality career begins shortly after high school graduation. Deciding to take an alternative route to the traditional college track, she happened to step inside a hotel property in the city of Morrow, Georgia. After inquiring about a job, she was informed by the front desk worker that the property was indeed hiring. This would be her first job in the industry, although, her mother and grandmother before her both worked in housekeeping.
From Cumming to Milledgeville, Savannah and more, Ms. Brooks has been a visitor herself to these cities during times where she traveled to educate new crops of hotel staff hungry for the kind of knowledge longterm, hands-on experience has afforded her. She says she very much enjoys meeting new housekeepers and making friends along the way.
These connections don’t begin and end with training. Brooks says she makes it a point to exchange contact information with the hotel staff she encounters. She never knows when she may come across a familiar face at a nearby property. It’s this kind of relationship building that displays her clear understanding of just how much people matter.
“When you enjoy what you do, it shows.”
Brooks says she has a close-knit relationship with her team. Her positive impact on others comes across when she expresses the joy she finds in cooking meals for her work family and their enthusiasm to do good for her such as surprising her on a special occasion. She fondly recounts a story detailing how the head chef of Burger Theory, a restaurant located inside the Holiday Inn & Suites, requested to speak with her about a particular matter only to lead her to a conference room full of their work peers who surprised her with a celebration. She considers it a very memorable moment.
A true proponent for going the extra mile, Regina offers her assistance when it is needed even in cases where requests are not within her typical job role. Generosity, know-how and a desire to be kind to others are traits that appear inherent to her. Saying, “When you enjoy what you do, it shows.” Brooks strikes a solid balance between fostering a fun, friendly work environment and strong work ethic. She’s a friendly face and experienced employee of the Stockbridge property that is worth exploring.
