Get your taste buds ready with some of Henry County’s local dining spots.

It’s fall y’all (finally)! Although the first official day of this season was September 22, as Georgians we know not to count on that date to start feeling the cooler weather. However, it has arrived! And now we can fully bask in the glow of all things sweet, decadent and warm.
But we’re not here to discuss precipitation — you wanna know about the food. This is the season of heart-warming dishes and sweet treats to share with family and friends. And what a joy to be able to find some of those just around the corner from home. I visited a few places in Henry County and want to share a few things that will help get you through the season, but you gotta get them soon while they last.
Cup o’ Joe
If you’re like me and need a jolt of caffeine to start your day, coffee will most definitely hit the spot. And if you’re also like me and don’t like having to get in and out of the car, then a quick-serve coffee spot is genius. Drip-Thru is a dynamic concept that is drive-thru only, with windows on either side to serve customers promptly and efficiently. They offer a multitude of coffees, teas, smoothies and even some packaged breakfast items (including Holey Sweet Donuts; read more about them below). And every so often, they bring in a new syrup flavor to dazzle customers. This month, they’ve brought out Candy Corn syrup, just in time for Halloween. The mild flavor really adds a subtle butterscotch and vanilla tone to your favorite drinks. You don’t have to enjoy it only in a hot drink, add this buttery flavor to an iced or frozen drink for a bit of a sweet cool down. And for some extra panache, make sure to top it off with whipped cream.

Do-nut Miss These Treats!
Just a quick look through Holey Sweet Donuts’ website will have you salivating. And a visit to the bakery will test your level of self-control. My personal favorite is the maple bacon donut because you can’t go wrong with savory and sweet at the same time. But for a limited time, you can enjoy two special flavors — apple crisp and pumpkin cake. The apple crisp donut has a great apple flavor that doesn’t overload your taste buds. And this wouldn’t just be a fall treat, but one that you can enjoy year-round. It would be great with a warm drink in the morning or as a nice pick-me-up after school or work. Now, I’m not the biggest pumpkin spice fan. However, Holey Sweets just may have converted me. One bite instantly reminded me of some of the subtle flavors in my late grandmother’s spice cake. The notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla really round out the pumpkin flavor and brings on the full feeling of fall. I may or may not be returning to get a few to have for those crisp mornings with my cup of coffee. Talk about a match made in heaven! Take a visit soon and try out these new flavors. I’d love to hear what you think of them.

A World of Flavor
There are times when I just want something tangy and salty. And one of my favorite homemade salty treats is chips or popcorn doused with hot sauce. It’s not weird, I promise. But if you want to go a more culinary route, run — not walk — to 15th Street Pizza & Pub. For a limited time, the restaurant is offering its Octoberfest rolls. Just think — buttery rolls, sauerkraut, bratwurst and mozzarella cheese all melded together. And to top it off, you’re given a Guinness stone ground mustard to dip them in. It was torture not to eat the whole box on the drive home. The rolls would be great as an appetizer or afternoon snack. Or, perhaps, you’re like me and will just eat them as a complete meal. No judgement here! But you better get in where you fit in, because these might not be sticking around for a long time, so make sure you stop by and try them out.
As a plus for October, the eatery is offering a strawberry passion cake to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month, where a portion of every slice sold will be donated to breast cancer research. So, you can have a tasty treat and donate to charity at the same time. A win-win if I’ve ever heard of one.
