
With its location 20 miles south of the world’s busiest airport, stretches of open road, and versatility, Henry County, Georgia has continued to grow in popularity as an ideal filming location for a number of television and movie projects. As you make your way through each city in Henry County, you’ll come across locations where productions both large and small have taken place. Here are just some of the projects that have filmed in the area.
Stranger Things
While set in the Midwest in Hawkins, Indiana most of the series is actually filmed in the State of Georgia. In fact, the majority of the middle and high school scenes were filmed at the former Patrick Henry High School in Stockbridge, Georgia. While you can’t access the school, passersby on Lee Street can snag a picture of “Hawkins High School” painted on the side of the gym.
The Walking Dead
A breakout hit during its debut in 2010, The Walking Dead has amassed a large following. The show films in various locations throughout the state of Georgia and has even set up shop in Henry County on more than one occasion. Scenes from season two and season six of the show have been filmed in Hampton, GA. The location of the season six dumpster scene, where characters Nicholas and Glenn are confronted by a swarm of walkers, is now designated as one of the Georgia Film Selfie Spots.
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013)
The keen-eyed movie buff will notice that when the RV with Ron, Brick, Brian and Champ begins to roll and they are being pelted with everything from bowling balls to scorpions, the Atlanta Motor Speedway is clearly visible. The damaged RV comes to rest just a few hundred yards away from the Speedway on the side of the road. In fact the whole driving scene in the RV was filmed on portions of Highway 20 and Lower Woolsey Road in Hampton.

Black Panther (2018)
Georgia again featured heavily in Marvel’s Black Panther and scenes from the fictional country of Wakanda were shot at the Vulcan Materials Company’s rock quarry in Stockbridge.
Furious 7 (2015)
For the seventh film in the Fast and Furious franchise, the Vulcan Materials Company’s rock quarry was in Stockbridge, GA was used in a heart pounding scene where Paul Walker’s character escapes a bus before it plunges into the quarry below with some revved up assistance from Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)
Atlanta Motor Speedway is unrecognizable as the coliseum in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. If you’re a fan of the film series, you may remember the chariot scene where Jennifer Lawrence dazzles the crowd as Katniss, “The Girl on Fire.’’ The scene was shot at the Hampton, Georgia speedway.
Zombieland (2009)
Georgia has seen a lot of amazing productions in the last 15+ years, and for Henry County one of the first major productions in what would grow to be a long list of television and film credits, was the 2009 hit, Zombieland. In the opening scenes of the movie when Jesse Eisenberg’s Columbus was listing his survival rules, he encounters a Zombie in a public restroom. This scene was actual filmed in one of the bathhouse at Atlanta Motor Speedway’s campground. In a later scene where Columbus first meet’s Woody Harrelson’s Tallahassee amid a sea of abandoned cars and where they discover a wrecked Hostess truck filled with Twinkies – both scenes are all filmed on portions of Highway 20.

We Are Marshall (2006)
Matthew Fox, portraying Red Dawson, gets the news of the tragic plane crash that claims the lives of Marshall University football players and fans in a scene from We Are Marshall that was filmed at the W. D. Miller Store in Stockbridge, Georgia. The film boasts talent that also includes Matthew McConaughey, Anthony Mackie and Kate Mara.
Made in Heaven (1987)
Gardner Farm in Locust Grove, GA was used in scenes from Made in Heaven, an 80s comedy starring Timothy Hutton and Kelly McGillis as two spirits who fall in love in Heaven, later reuniting with one another on earth. The film even features a cameo by the late Tom Petty.
