The History of Yellow Jacket Hot Dogs

Established in 1992, Yellow Jacket Hot Dogs was inspired by The Yellow Jacket Drive-In in Atlanta, Georgia. The original Yellow Jacket opened in 1928 and was founded by a Georgia Tech student. It was aptly named after the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Having outgrown its Midtown location, the restaurant was forced to move to North Avenue, and subsequently, its name was changed to “The Varsity.”

Today, Yellow Jacket Hot Dogs continues to serve classic American fare while paying homage to not only the original drive-in restaurant, but to Buzz and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, too.
