Original Shane’s Rib Shack
Taste a little Henry County history at The Original Shane’s Rib Shack in McDonough. Before Shane’s Rib Shack expanded across the Southeast, Shane and Stacey Thompson opened the very first location here in 2002, building the restaurant around family recipes and a passion for Southern barbecue. Today, the Original Shack still serves the slow-smoked ribs, hand-chopped pork and chicken, wings, sandwiches, and classic Southern sides that helped turn one local restaurant into a regional favorite. For barbecue fans visiting Henry County, this is where the Shane’s story began.
MUST-TRY MENU ITEMS
- Baby Back Ribs – Slow-smoked and served with your choice of barbecue sauce, these are a natural place to start at the Rib Shack.
- BBQ Pork Plate – A half-pound of hand-chopped barbecue pork lightly sauced with Original BBQ and served with two sides and Texas Toast.
- Big Dad Sandwich – A half-pound of chopped barbecue pork piled onto Texas Toast and named for the grandfather who helped inspire Shane’s barbecue journey.

There really is a Shane! In 2002, Shane Thompson left his corporate career and opened the first Shane’s Rib Shack in McDonough with his wife, Stacey. The restaurant was inspired in part by Shane’s grandfather, Dewey “Big Dad” Brown, and the family barbecue recipes they had perfected together.
The little McDonough barbecue shack eventually became a much larger brand, but the original location is still serving the community where everything started.
