Mother’s Day can be a bit overwhelming for moms. As sweet as breakfast in bed or handmade cards that leave a glitter trail in their wake are, sometimes all mom really wants for Mother’s Day is a day to herself. This Mother’s Day leave mom with a glass of wine, a good book and take the kids out for a full day of fun with Dad. Here is a guide to creating a Mother’s Day in Henry County everyone can enjoy.
Forget breakfast in bed. Leave mom asleep and whisk the kids to Krispy Kreme in Stockbridge for doughnuts. Don’t forget to get some to go. Mom may be ready for a little sweet treat when you get home.
Now that the kids are on a sugar high, give them some options to expend that energy. Henry County has more than 25 parks with playgrounds, a disc golf course, a BMX track and even a paintball and airsoft facility.
Are the kids really into archery? Check out Panola Mountain State Park’s archery classes or use the 3D archery range where they can do target practice on a dinosaur. Rent a bike and ride the 12 miles of paved bike trails or take your fishing poles and do a little angling.*
Weekends at Southern Belle Farm offer not just the chance to pick beautiful red strawberries and eat Southern Belle’s famous homemade strawberry ice cream, but also enjoy activities like Belle’s Barn, the jumping pillow, cow train, pedal cars, and hayride. The recently opened Farm Market is full of locally made products like Southern Belle’s strawberry jellies and jams. They would make great gifts. (hint hint)
For train lovers, Locust Grove has a beautiful Train Watching Platform. More than 40 trains pass through Locust Grove each day and speakers in the platform even let you hear the conductors.
If the weather is bad there are also several great indoor options to keep the kids entertained.
Sky Zone McDonough is an indoor trampoline park. “Open Jump” times means full access to all Sky Zone activities, including the Main Court (free jump), the Foam Zone (freestyle jumping into foam), Ultimate Dodgeball, SkySlam, and more!
Another fun, healthy activity includes skating at Starlite Family Fun Center of Stockbridge. While the main attraction may be skating on Starlite’s hardwood maple floors, they also have a huge indoor playground for children 10 and under and an arcade.
If by this point the kids are worn out and ready for a more low-key activity, Regal McDonough Stadium 16 has 16 screens, one of which is sure to be showing something for the kids.
After a busy day the kids are sure to be exhausted, while mom will be well rested. Pick up dinner on your way home from one of Henry County’s restaurants, a movie and some popcorn for a family movie night. With this combination, we think you may have created the perfect Mother’s Day.
