And So The Journey Begins.

Battles & Belles

Start your day with a visit to the Nash Farm Battlefield Museum to see how a once quiet rural farm became the site of one of the defining battles in the War Between the States. Gaze upon bullets, belt buckles and cannon balls recovered from the grounds. Travel to nearby Jonesboro for a tour of Stately Oaks Plantation, Clayton County’s “Tara.” Just a short distance up the road arrive at the Jonesboro Depot where you can book historic tours and visit the Road to Tara Museum. Take a short drive to Atlanta where you will be literally surrounded by history at the Atlanta Cyclorama, a 42 foot tall painting in the round that depicts the Battle of Atlanta. Finish the day at the Atlanta History Center which houses the most comprehensive collection of Civil War artifacts in the world.

Days Gone By

Spend the day exploring your roots and a simpler way of life. Start your journey back in time in the 1820s Settler’s Log Cabin in the Heritage Park Village. Travel up the road to Southern Belle Farm where strawberry/pumpkin picking (seasonally) and hayrides are the order of the day. At the Atlanta State Farmers Market enjoy a farm fresh lunch before browsing through the 150 acres of vendors. Moving from root veggies to family roots, visit the Georgia State and National Archives to dig into your history with census data, military service records and naturalization records or plan ahead to attend one of the genealogy workshop. History will come alive in a new way after this insightful look into the past.
