Henry Arts Alliance

Established in 1991 by Dr. Edward Bridges, the Henry Arts Alliance is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to sponsoring and promoting the arts in Henry County. All programs are open to the public, and events held throughout the year are free to encourage community involvement and support arts education. Learn all about the arts programs the organization supports, and check out activities geared toward children and their families.

Arts Camp

For one week in June every year, kids can attend the Henry Arts Alliance Arts Camp. Kindergarten to third grade-age children can attend the Exploring the Arts Summer Camp, while children in grades four through eight can participate in the Performing Arts Summer Camp. With two different tiers, the Visual Arts Summer Camp caters to children in kindergarten through eighth grade. Scholarships to the Performing Arts Camp and Visual Arts Camp are available to those who qualify.

Parade of Pumpkins and Storytelling

During the fall, the Henry Arts Alliance promotes arts and literacy through the Parade of Pumpkins. Every year, local artists and businesses paint pumpkins resembling storybook characters, which are put on display at the Henry Piedmont Hospital before being moved to the McDonough Library. In October, the library hosts a free storytelling event open to children and their families that commences with a costume parade.

Christmas with the Arts

To gear up for the holiday season, the Henry Arts Alliance holds Christmas with the Arts. This event typically takes place in November or December at the Henry County Performing Arts Center. Enjoy an afternoon filled with music, dance, theater and art as local performing groups put on a holiday-themed show.

High School Art Contest

Since 1999, the High School Visual Arts Competition has been sponsored by the Henry Arts Alliance together with the Visual Arts Collective. 10th– to 12th-grade students enter their pieces for a chance to win one of several prizes. The contest usually occurs during the month of February.

Art in Unusual Places

This event, which got its start in 2008, was created as a way to showcase art in unexpected places, like the Piedmont Henry Hospital. New unusual places are selected every year.
