The question was asked and the answer was yes. We don’t mean “THE” question. We mean the request for the first date. What exactly to do on a first date can be a tricky one. Since you may not know much about each other, your likes, dislikes and the constant worry that you will be trapped just staring at each other across the table, we have a few alternative ideas to take the pressure off.
Coffee is the standard “go-to” alternative to a dinner date. If you choose to go that route consider the Speakeasy Bookstore in Hampton. In addition to their huge selection of pre-read books, they also serve locally sourced coffee, expresso, tea and pastries.
If the date goes well perhaps coffee could lead to a romantic Walkin’ DEAD tour. Fans of the AMC television show will be treated to six stops and stories about the Season 6 filming that took place in Hampton. (Tours are offered each Saturday at 1PM)
If you still aren’t tired of each other after the tour, just keep the date rolling and take a 1 minute walk to JailHouse Brewing Company for their tours and tastings from 2PM to 6PM. Don’t forget to get your mug shot taken. Whether it ends up in the wedding slideshow or just on Instagram, it will make a great story. (Visitation as JailHouse’s tours are called, takes place Thursdays and Fridays from 5:30 – 7PM and Saturdays from 2 – 6PM.)
Southern Belle Farm offers a variety of country casual options depending on the season. In Spring you and your date can pick a gallon of strawberries or just rock on the Farm Market porch with some delicious homemade strawberry ice cream or strawberry shortcake. (Seriously, get the shortcake AND the ice cream.) In the Summer, peaches, blackberries and blueberry picking is available. The peach orchard is not only full of delicious fruit this time of year, but stunningly beautiful and quite romantic. In the Fall, a pumpkin patch, corn maze, corn cannon, farm animals and even a hay ride provide plenty of things to do while also giving you time to get to know your date.
For a super fun, casual date, let dinner come from a truck – a food truck, during Stockbridge Food Truck Tasty Tuesdays. Tasty Tuesdays are held each week from 5:30PM to 9PM, April through October. Pack camping chairs or a picnic blanket for a first class picnic.
Prefer a more wine and cheese type date? How about turning that idea on its head and book both of you a spot in one of Barley & Vine’s beer, wine or cheese making classes. Who knows, regardless of how the date goes you may find a new hobby!
