Here, There, Everywhere.

In Henry County enjoy unique experiences, comfortable rates and that famous southern hospitality all while still being close to the action. It makes a convenient base for exploring the surrounding area, being only 30 minutes from the attractions of downtown Atlanta and less than an hour from Macon. A dazzling mixture of historic Southern charm and bustling modern activities awaits! Easy access via Interstate 75 offers the convenience of plentiful dining choices, activities, nightlife, shopping, and clean, comfortable lodging. Henry County has four cities: Hampton, Locust Grove, McDonough and Stockbridge and each have their own unique history and personality.

Hampton

Hampton (www.cityofhampton.com) is the home of Atlanta Motor Speedway. Established in 1873, Hampton is filled with tradition and history. Beautiful historic homes and old oaks line the streets of a pedestrian friendly downtown area. Hampton prides itself on being designated a "Tree" and "Bird Sanctuary" city. It began as a mercantile town and was the only rail connection in Henry County for some time. The 120-year-old Train Depot is the centerpiece of the city and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. It is open daily and available for private events. Another historic building recently renovated and preserved is the original circa 1920s jail house. It now houses JailHouse Brewing Company, Georgia’s fourth micro-brewery. Hampton is designated as a Main Street Program community and continues to maintain small town character while attracting new businesses and quality development projects. Hampton has also been the backdrop for major motion pictures such as Glory (1989) and Zombieland (2009).

Locust Grove

Locust Grove (www.cityoflocustgrove.com) derived its name from a beautiful grove of locust trees that could be seen throughout the town. It is a tranquil city, known for friendly hometown values, the preservation of its rich heritage and the stewardship of vast natural and cultural resources.

By preserving its past, the city was designated a Better Hometown City and falls under the umbrella of the nationwide Main Street program. A new streetscape project for historic downtown was recently completed and provides the perfect location to watch the more than 50 trains that pass through Locust Grove everyday. Locust Grove is home to Noah’s Ark Rehabilitation Center (www.noahs-ark.org), an animal habitat with walking trails and picnic areas and Tanger Outlet Center, (www.tangeroutlet.com) a retail center with over 70 brand name factory outlet stores. Annual events in Locust Grove include: Music in the Park, July through September; Stories in the Park, Scarecrow Village, Art After Dark in October, lighting of the Locust Grove Christmas Tree on Thanksgiving night and Christmas in the Grove in December.

McDonough

McDonough (www.cityofmcdonough.com) is the county’s seat of government and home to family fun spots such as Southern Belle Farm, Fun Town and Heritage Park. As a cultural center for the arts, McDonough is home to The Henry Players, a local theatrical group, the Henry County Performing Arts Center and the Henry Singers. The city has been the setting for several movies and for many years has hosted various annual youth and adult sports tournaments with teams coming from across the U. S. and Puerto Rico.

Stockbridge

Stockbridge (www.cityofstockbridge.com) is considered the gateway to Henry County, and the city’s history dates back to the early1800’s when it was the site of small crossroads. It is now advantageously located on both Interstate 75 and Interstate 675. Many city improvements have occurred over the last 10 years, including a new streetscape, the Cochran Library renovation and a beautiful new, state of the art City Hall. The city is home to the upscale Merle Manders Conference Center, which hosts social and corporate events, and the Ted Strickland Community Center, which hosts a variety of smaller meetings and events.

Eagle’s Landing Country Club, former host of the LPGA tournament is located on the south side of Stockbridge near Henry County’s thriving medical community. The golf club includes a 27-hole golf course designed by Tom Fazio and a Georgian-style clubhouse. The city is home to two of the largest and best-known arts organizations in south Metro Atlanta: The Southern Crescent Symphony Orchestra and Atlanta Festival Ballet.
Information about the cities activities and events can be found on the event calendar.
